Introduction
The Tharu Cultural Museum & Research Center (TCMRC), located in Bachhauli, Chitwan, is recognized as the first museum dedicated to the Tharu indigenous community in Nepal. Established to conserve and promote awareness of Tharu culture, the center plays a crucial role in preserving traditions, indigenous skills, lifestyle, and ancient heritage.
Objectives
The TCMRC is committed to conserving Tharu culture and educating the public about the traditions and heritage of the Tharu people. The center actively supports research efforts related to Tharu history and culture, welcoming scholars from across the globe to study and share knowledge.
Upcoming Project: Photo Exhibition
TCMRC has announced plans to organize a photo exhibition titled “Tharus during the 20th century.” This exhibition will be held in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan, aiming to showcase historical photographs that document significant aspects of Tharu life and history.
Exhibition Goals
The primary goal of the photo exhibition is to preserve and display historical images related to the Tharu community. The collection will explore topics including the impact of the malaria eradication project, the transformation of Tharu history over a 60-year period, agricultural practices, the landscape of Tharu settlements, interactions between Tharus and government administration, and various facets of Tharu culture.
