Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha Relief Programs in Response to COVID-19 under Tharus and Friends Association’s Financial Support

Overview

The Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha (TKS) Central Office, located in Kathmandu, serves as the primary coordinating body for various initiatives aimed at promoting community welfare. The Central Office provides oversight and guidance to district-level branches, ensuring that relief and support programs reach communities in need, particularly during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Relief Distribution Efforts in Kapilbastu District

In the Kapilbastu district, the TKS organized a targeted relief program to support families severely impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. This initiative was led by Umashankar Tharu, President of the TKS Kapilbastu district, along with Janjir Prasad Tharu, a central member of TKS. During the event, five families who had lost their primary breadwinner to the pandemic received relief packages, each valued at NRs. 25,000. The assistance packages included staple food items such as rice, dal, salt, cooking oil, and flour. These essential supplies were distributed to families residing in Banganga, Budhabhumi municipalities, and nearby areas in Kapilbastu district.

Financial Assistance Provided in Chitwan District

In Chitwan district, the TKS organized a separate relief program to assist families who lost a member due to COVID-19. Through this initiative, financial support of NRs. 7,000 was provided directly to each of three families from Bharatpur and one family from Madi. This cash assistance was designed to help these families address their immediate needs and provide some relief as they navigated the challenges following their loss.
