About TFA

Overview

Tharus and Friends Association (TFA) is a non-profit, apolitical social organization dedicated to serving the Tharu community and promoting cultural harmony. Established in 2006 and officially registered with the State of New Mexico, USA in 2008, TFA has been committed to a range of initiatives aimed at uplifting and supporting the Tharu people and fostering relationships both within the United States and abroad.

Core Focus Areas

  • Supporting the interests and welfare of the Tharu community.
  • Fostering friendship among Tharus and other Nepalese or non-Nepalese individuals in the United States and internationally.
  • Promoting education in underprivileged Tharu communities by providing scholarships and other forms of support to academically gifted and financially disadvantaged students pursuing higher studies in Nepal.
  • Helping to protect and preserve the Tharu identity and valuable cultural heritage, including arts, culture, traditions, language, traditional knowledge, and history.

Philanthropic Initiatives

In addition to its primary focus areas, TFA has undertaken various philanthropic activities. Notably, it has provided financial assistance for the rescue and rehabilitation of Kamlari (slavery) girls in Western Nepal.
